Built to build.

Most communications careers are spent supporting brands. Mine has been spent building them.

At every stage — environmental services, global agricultural trade, next-generation materials innovation — I’ve been the person who comes in before the brand exists and leaves with something that lasts. The narrative architecture. The content ecosystem. The measurement framework. The institutional voice that holds across markets, audiences, and time.

That’s not a common background. It’s the one I’m most proud of.

The work.

I’m Lisa Humphreys — a brand and communications strategist specializing in agriculture, food systems, and sustainability-driven innovation. I work with organizations navigating complex or emerging categories, helping them define their position, align stakeholders, and communicate clearly across the full value chain.

Most recently I served as Senior Director of Content Management and Brand Stewardship for the United Soybean Board, where I led national marketing communications, content strategy, and reputation management for a USDA-overseen, farmer-governed organization. I directed a $30M+ integrated communications portfolio — and more importantly, I built the first fully integrated content and communications ecosystem U.S. Soy had ever had. Narrative pillars, editorial governance, thematic planning, performance measurement, multilingual toolkits, agency management across 10+ partners. The result: brand favorability up 51%, stakeholder trust up 28%, digital engagement up 256%.

Before that, I spent six years at the U.S. Soybean Export Council leading global communications strategy across 80+ countries — translating complex trade, science, and policy into clear narratives for policymakers, journalists, and industry partners across Asia, LATAM, MENA, and Europe.

Most recently I led external communications and brand stewardship for the United Soybean Board, overseeing a multi-million-dollar portfolio and building the first fully integrated content and communications ecosystem for U.S. Soy. I also held leadership roles with the U.S. Soybean Export Council, where I helped shape global messaging and market-facing strategy across 50+ markets.

Where it started.

My career began in environmental services — with roles at Waste Management and American Water — working alongside engineers and scientists to translate technical and regulatory complexity into clear, actionable communications. That foundation shaped everything. It’s why I’m comfortable in the weeds of a science-driven conversation, and why I know how to bring that complexity out the other side as something people can actually use.

Where it goes further.

I’ve also worked in places most strategists haven’t. As Executive Producer of GroundBreaking — an Emmy-nominated documentary broadcast nationally on A&E — I helped bring agriculture into mainstream media in a way the industry had never done before. I supported Mission Unstoppable on CBS, spotlighting women in STEM. That work earned an Emmy, 10 Telly Awards including Gold in Science and Technology, and a PRovoke SABRE Award.

More recently I’ve advised textile and materials innovators bringing next-generation fibers into global apparel markets — translating science-driven products into narratives that resonate with brands, partners, and end markets. Different industry. Same challenge: something genuinely important that the world doesn’t yet have the language for.

What makes Lisa& different.

Most communicators can tell a good story. Fewer can build the system the story lives in.

I’ve done both — repeatedly, across industries, at scale. I’ve built brands from nothing, created the infrastructure that makes communications sustainable, and produced award-winning content that moved markets and shaped conversations.

The result is a perspective that’s genuinely rare: strategic enough to sit in the boardroom, creative enough to produce Emmy-winning content, and experienced enough to know the difference between a message that sounds good and one that actually works.

A few numbers worth knowing.

51% — growth in brand favorability for U.S. Soy under my leadership
